Born in England, raised in Toronto Canada, educated at the Humber College jazz program, Michelle Willis has a broad musical experience writing and performing music along great artists such as David Crosby, Snarky Puppy, Parachute Club, and the Zac Brown Band.
It’s hard to label her music in any specific genre as you’ll hear many conventions present throughout. It lives somewhere between jazz, folk, pop, church music, and perhaps Eric Whitacre. It’s calming, reassuring, comforting, hearty, and simply inspiring.
If you find yourself in a place where you need some encouragement to press on, or if you simply need to hear that everything will be okay, than you’ll want to get a copy of this album. Her songs honest, comforting, positive and musically beautiful.
See Us Through Lyrics
by Michelle Willis
Lyrics \\ don’t fight all that’s left in this heart // I’m stepping lightly, I’m in the dark // but I’m dying to come home // I want to come home // take me home // you’ve got a little piece of my heart // I’m used to jumping wildly, blindly in the dark // but you gotta know // hey, hey, hey, heya // there’s patience for ya // even after this time we’re still only seeing one part // leave me space to try // I promise there is far more planned and so much time to start // all night I will wait this one out // delight for you’re sure to find out, but you gotta know // hey, hey, hey, heya // there’s patience for ya // even after this time we’re still only seeing one part // leave me space to try // I promise there is far more planned and so much time to start // I’m dying to come home // Need to come home // I want to come home // take me home
IT’LL RAIN TODAY
Lyrics \\ it’ll rain today honey, don’t walk so slow // bring that umbrella you love, bring a warm coat // let’s walk together // i’ll come along too // we’ll watch the rain fall beside us // it’ll rain today honey // it’s so grey out there // i know these days seem to you so bare of sun // but catch that light // every corner you can, and bring it back home for us // it’s so grey today honey despite the sun being out // see over there some green coming up from the ground // this world’s funny that way // something good from decay fighting up to bloom for us // everything’s wilted and covered outside // I hear you breathing // each heavy sigh // but don’t let that fear take you over just yet // grab onto some light for us // that ache in your heart it don’t know what to do // but flowers in our door still bring a smile to you //so grab on to some light, every corner that you can // the light keeps you going, though the dark helps you to understand // the light is gonna keep you going // though the dark helps you understand
BATTLEFIELD (A LETTER TO YOU)
Lyrics \\ won’t you come over love? // i’ve been wrestling in my mind // seems it’s about that time to give it up // ‘cause in my head every word I say somebody’s taking sides // a hopeless heart, afraid to trust // see I’ve never been quite sure of any one thing in my life // so tonight I lay down at my bed, just hoping for words to guide // your soul is the battlefield of your reason and your passion // a wise man once said // and if so then surely I have bled my thoughts and worries to the ground // and I’m laying here between them now // as I’m holding my hands up and out to you // see I’ve never been quite sure of any one thing in my life // so what makes me so sure that someone could set it right? // your soul is the battlefield of your reason and your passion // tonight that’s what I read // and I know for surely I have bled my thoughts and worries to the ground // and I’m laying here between them now // as I’m holding my hands up and out to you // will you keep me safe in the storm? // I know I’ve gotta run through it but with you I’ll be warm // out of anyone I blame myself for the damage that’s been done // this mind and heart alone can be a sword to our destruction // so I’m laying here between them now // taking shelter for I’m found // as I’m holding my hands up and out to you
SEE US THROUGH
Lyrics \\ don’t scratch at these old wounds // they still need some time to heal // I know we’ll make it through if you can only meet me here // I love you more than words can say but I’ll still use them anyway // tomorrow I’d be better if I could only make a way // if I could, oh I would // forgive me I’m so slow at this // I wish I didn’t mess up so quick // but I think we are worth it in the end // you and I are too damn good we just need some time to mend // don’t scratch at these old wounds // they still need some time to heal // I know we’ll make it through if you can only meet me here // I love you more than words can say but I’ll still use them anyway // I promise I would change today if only I could // if I could, oh I would // they say that time can heal it all // but not without some grace to fall upon // oh love can you see us through, can you see us through another day? // you and I are too damn good to believe a love can fall away // I know we’ll make it through if you can only meet me here // I don’t know any other way // believe me when I try to say we’re worth it in the end // if I could, oh i would // I love you more than words can say, I love you more than words can say // I don’t know any other way
Lyrics \\ I’m holding on to a thought of you // didn’t ever want to lose you // it’s been so long since I saw you // now I see you in every face and every place that I go // I miss you // I miss being known by you // do you remember that morning? // you told me to try like a papa to child // I trusted you as you cut up the pieces of my first persimmon fruit // we sat and talked for a while // all the things we tried to teach each other // and all the things we left inside one another // I’ll keep you carried in here, you know // now I only see you in stories, and people we’ve known // I say it’s alright, and I let you be // but the truth is I wish you’d just call me // I’m holding on to a thought of you // I didn’t ever want to lose you // it’s been so long since I saw you // now I see you in every face, and every place that I go // I miss you // I miss having you to know // I guess it’s harder for us now //we’re all starting to settle down // you’ve got your lady and I’ve got my crown // we hold them out like trophies now // I’m alright old boy // life has brought days full and wide and I’ll love you a mile and more // forever I’ll smile here with the people we’ve known // and all my stories and all the seeds you’ve sown // I’ll smile this beautiful morning with my persimmon
Lyrics \\ it broke into me // it became okay // one time then the next // turned it my way // to make my own
perfect paradigm // mine all mine // and fear it hovered round every time // yet you trust me // i spoke i speak and twist it round // you look me in // ‘neath the muck you found me // still you fight for me // you pull me out each time you fight for me // still it comes round me, round // yet you trust me // this dark old place fills me with no grace // i needed truth
and in it’s place came rusty old bones with a hovering disease // fear it come and break my knees but I’m standing // I’m standing when you trust me // oh what a fight is my minds might // the strength of men
pales in this light // oh what pain, oh what sorrow // comes to the man breaks a trust that’s borrowed // you trust me, you trust me, you trust me, you trust me
Lyrics \\ breeze in the morning // so sweet yeah you move me so gentle // a waking morning rocks my heart from it’s deep sleep // as I sit here trying to put something on paper that I could compare to you // but it don’t come so easy as it used to // fighting crows break their branches and part ways // if only it were so simple // I’d leave this place today // I got more love than I could ever know // the sweet, good love in his heart and arms keeps me coming home // but to put it on paper // to bring myself out again // I can feel it coming now like nerves to my fingers // I could go my life and never write another word // could stay here // love and live by my hands // but every time I’d see a crow fly // I’d know I couldn’t believe enough to try // put it down on paper // believe it, believe it, believe
Lyrics \\ oh how I miss you // my solitude // you were grace in a warm wind just when I needed you // and with each day that passed I watched as I gave you away // to things that I couldn’t feel so much as I needed you today // released oh my bitterness makes one ashamed to see // revealed there in an instant all that’s shaking in me // heavy handed I walk out // a sign that I’m losing faith // oh come again to me slowly, dear solitude, today // remind me, remind me // from your silence came // a place I could fall to when I called your name // pull me out // oh by your timing I could wait // oh come again to me slowly, dear solitude, today
